cowboyasterix Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 I`m looking for good, not too expensive garage in Gloucester or Gloucestershire to fix A/C.A/C not working at all. No coolant+who know what else(compressor?)...What minimum&maximum cost it can be? Quote
JohnR Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Unless you are really lucky, and have just lost some refrigerant, then it is going to be expensive. Most common fault (45% within a couple of years) is the compressor seizing up. Even if you get a recon compressor, fit it yourself and then get someone to gas it properly for you (and most likely twice if there is a leak!) you are unlikely to have change from Quote
searcher Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 When i bought the Bamma tha AC was dead so they re gassed it for me but still didnt fix it.So they then changed the condensor but still no good so also changed the compressor which fixed the problem.God know what it would have cost if i had to pay for it. gregers Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 i was quoted 800 quid to get mine fixed, and that was just having the compressor changed and then a regas, obviously the price wouldve gone up if they found anything else wrong,in the end i got hold of a 2nd hand compressor, then my mechanic found the clutch wheel of the compressor sitting happily in the engine tray, robbed the clutch wheel from the new one and got it working for the princely sum of 30 quid and no need for a regas,it might be something as simple as this or it might not, hopefully it wont cost you both arms and a leg. cowboyasterix Posted April 23, 2008 Author Report Posted April 23, 2008 So, guys you suggest that compressor is dead. Is it possible to remove it and try to repair. What exactly is seizing up? Bearings or something else? So, like now try to regass it or go to A/C specialist or looking for new compressor? Is it VW manufactured-the same what in Passat? What do you think about this? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ford-Galaxy-Mk2-A-C-...Q2em118Q2el1247 Quote

Anyway we left and said we would think about it,and i asked if there was any gas in the system and if the Air con would work. They said they tried to re gas it so there should be some gas and the air con may work on and off. Well for the next 4 months our aircon worked fine, and come the middle of may we wil try to regas it again. 50 notes a year for the aircon to work in high season seems a better deal than 350 notes for a new compressor that may or may not fix the problem.
